And yes, I am on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. The same one who got the better of the Titanic! Starting from Port Hope Simpson, it is facing us and then on our left. Getting up in a good mood, like every day of the year obviously, I left the Alexi motel then got on my destroyer in the sun. It feels good not to have to worry about getting the water out of your visor. Once I had covered the 2 or 3 km of more or less rutted gravel paths, I joined the 510 towards Blanc-Sablon. Yeah, that's the problem... It's missing "fill up then get to the 510". I'm sure you see me coming! And yes, I look at my fuel consumption and, damn, I'm going to be limited. And the question: do I turn around or do I trust the on-board computer and my latest consumption?
Well I chose the second option. During the next 160 or so kilometers, I had a bit of a squint: one eye on the road and the other on the gauge! And of course, to help consumption, a crosswind to dehorn the oxen, as they used to say in my area of origin. It should also be said that I had a joker, my 2.5l that I had lying around, just in case. ;)
I still stopped a few times for photos. But again, they are so not representative of what my eyes see!!! It’s such a wild beauty! I'm filming a bit with my GoPro stuck behind my windshield, I'll see if I can get something out of it when I get back. And it's no surprise that I... arrived at the next station (more than 120 km from my "thin") but not bad on the butt. When driving at 80, it consumes little… Thank you Honda!
As soon as the tank was full, I turned around to visit the Red Bay site. Seriously, if you're going this way, go there. If only to meet the two nice ladies from Parc Canada. Super friendly, dynamic as not possible and our guide, yes take the one-hour guided tour of the island, made us taste wild berries by picking them in front of us! I discovered Bakeapples (https://www.productofnewfoundland.ca/articles/bakeapples-the-origin-story?format=amp) and I have Labrador tea in a pocket!
But above all, the view is worth the detour and by 2026, the park will be greatly improved.
Once the tour was done, I jumped on my saddle to ride another 45 minutes to go see a lighthouse. It seems like I missed it from last year! I didn't get into this one. I made a few and fully equipped for the bike, well, it wasn't necessary! But, on the other hand, I saw a whale! The back, the water jet and even the fin!!! I tried to take a photo of it, but it was too far away and the magnification of the cell is too pixelated. No problem, I saw it!
Finally, I left to travel the North Shore (i.e. the end of Quebec) until the end of the 138. Well, I didn't find the sign and after more than 300 km, I wasn't tempted to search for 20 minutes with my machine weighing more than 300kg on fairly passable roads. :/
But I went there. So, I went to the end of the 138 in both directions! :)
After that, I turned back to go to bed in Labrador 45 minutes before boarding to Newfoundland tomorrow.
In short, a short 400+ km and more than 5 hours on the bike to fill my eyes and memories. Tomorrow, head to the Vikings… in the rain.
Merci tout le monde de me suivre!
